‘Encounters’ presents a group of eight Melbourne artists whose works reflects meeting s and engagements with people and objects – real or imagined. All encounters are ephemeral in nature and here, each artist chooses to galvanise their experiences in a way that has particular personal resonance.

Elroy Hendrick’s has been a keen member of the Alrassa Art Group and the art studio at Nadrasca. He has exhibited in a number of group exhibitions such as Connected 08 and Connected 09 at the Art Centre’s Black Box, and ADEC’s 2010 exhibition Summer at the Atrium, Federation Square. His practice is charactersised by a refined level of pattern making and surreal imagery, an interest in people and community, and his wry sense of humour.

Alongside Elroy’s artworks are artworks from John Button, Vita Celestino, Beverly Duncombe, Loretta Lynch, Matthew Sotiropoulos, John Waddington and Bradley Watts. These artists are a collective of emerging artists who attend Ivanhoe Diamond Valley Centre together and have been developing their individual art practices for the past year at 'Nick's Space' contemporary art program at J-studios. The artworks included in this exhibition have been selected by the curators and the artists as representing the individual artist's style, but also as artworks that capture shared themes and preoccupations that can be seen through the lens of 'Encounters'.
